Kitesurfing in Greece: My First Adventure on Rhodes Island

I came to Greece for the first time not knowing what to expect. I had only ever seen incredible shots of ancient architecture, stunning blue water, and whitewashed buildings. Being European, I still have so much to discover here, having lived in Australia for the past 12 years. We’re managing life between three continents—my family is based in Poland, my husband’s family is in the Caribbean, and we live in Australia.

Visiting Greece was the perfect chance to combine a family holiday with kiting. My mom is happy to just relax, so it doesn’t matter to her as much where we go. Naturally, I found a hotel closest to the kite spot at Kremasti Beach on Rhodes Island. A quick 2.5-hour flight later (I was based in Poland), we were there—and the island instantly stole my heart.

Thanks to my friend I discovered the AirRiders Kite Pro Center at Kremasti Beach. The setup is perfect: a compressor to pump your kite, a shaded chill area, gear rentals, and friendly assistance with launching and landing on the pebbly beach. There’s even yoga! The water is warm and blue, and there’s someone keeping an eye on you at all times. Windy every day—what a kitesurfer’s dream!

After chasing wind and waves across the Greek islands, we headed to Lindos—a place where time feels like it slows down. Being so far from Europe reminded me how incredible the culture and architecture of old towns are. It was also the hottest place on Rhodes (and the least windy!), so our focus shifted from kiting to family time. The island has so much to offer! You can’t get bored. There is a reason I picked this place for a mum and daugher holiday.

We spent my days wandering white alleys lined with bougainvillea, sipping iced coffee on rooftop terraces, and browsing endless boutiques filled with beautiful fabrics and colors (wish I had more suitcase space!). Travelling with my mom as an adult is special—it gives you a chance to see her as a person and create meaningful memories together. Lindos gave us space to just be, and honestly, that was everything.

Kitesurfing Highlights

Kremasti Beach was my favorite—convenient, fun, and no fuss. AirRiders Kite Pro Center delivered the best vibes: jet ski patrols, launch assistance, chill areas, and professional tips. Plus, it’s so close to hotels and cafes. Perfect if you’re travelling with family.

Prasonisi Beach didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The flat water only opened after 7pm, the walk in the heat was long, it was crowded, and the wave spot didn’t quite hit the mark. Maybe I just needed more time to adjust, but it’s not one I’d rush back to.

Theologos is another fantastic spot, especially if you’re chasing steady wind and less crowded waters. The long, sandy beach offers plenty of space for sessions, and the surrounding area has a relaxed, local vibe that makes it perfect for an afternoon escape. It’s a great alternative if you want a quieter spot than Kremasti or Prasonisi. It is more wavy so keep that in mind.

Where to stay in Kremasti Beach area

If you want to be near Kremasti Beach, here are some options within a 5–10 minute walk:
All Senses Ocean Blue Seaside Hotel – food was average
Pylea Beach Hotel – really cute and apparently the nicest
Blue Bay Beach Resort

If you’re looking for charming boutique accommodation, I highly recommend booking in advance on Booking.com—the cutest places get snapped up quickly, especially in peak season.
